What does a Spanish mobile number look like?
Spanish numbers have nine digits and no trunk zero. Mobiles start with 6, or with 71 to 74; the 75 to 79 ranges are reserved. From abroad you write +34 612 345 678. Because there is no leading 0, a number written the Spanish way and the international way only differ by the +34.
Do you need an ID for a Spanish SIM card?
Yes. Ley 25/2007, in force since 8 November 2007, obliges operators to keep a register of prepaid customers with their name, nationality and the type and number of their ID document; older cards had two years to be registered or were switched off. A rental issues no SIM, so no document is needed on our side.
Does Spain's Cl@ve accept foreign numbers?
Yes: registration for Cl@ve PIN, the Spanish tax agency's login, accepts a Spanish or a foreign mobile with its country prefix, one mobile per user. That is a reason to keep such an account on a number you will have for years, Spanish or not, rather than on a rental that ends.
Who rents a Spanish number?
Second-home owners and seasonal workers who need texts from Spanish services a few months a year, people arriving in Spain before their own contract, and sellers who prefer to keep their own number off listings. The 90-day rental matches a season; renew it if you stay longer.
